| Emmert was feeling sassy that day. |
Mr. Emmert was asked what his reaction was to all the criticism (some from conference commissioners) on the Cam Newton ruling. Mr. Emmert said, "I was not surprised by the volume or the vitriolic nature, but had we made a different decision, I do think it would have been worse." The head of the NCAA basically just said that public opinion counts in NCAA decisions. In our opinion, this is the most ridiculous statement to come out of this whole Cam Newton affair. The NCAA is supposed to be a fair ruling body.
The mission statement of the NCAA reads:
"Our purpose is to govern competition in a fair, safe, equitable and sportsmanlike manner, and to integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education so that the educational experience of the student-athlete is paramount." The NCAA should not be letting any outside factors play a role in decisions. How would you feel if you were being tried for a crime, and the jury considered the public's desire for your conviction before reaching a verdict? This statement shows how corrupt the NCAA has become.
Later, in the same interview, Mr. Emmert went on to say that college athletics is not "big money". How gullible does he think we are? Emmert claims that only twelve universities in the entire country made a profit off their athletic departments last year. What? There is no way that is correct; the millions of dollars these programs get from advertisers, merchandising, and TV deals. Your'e telling us, that if you assume the twelve SEC schools made a profit, then no other program makes money? No profit for Ohio State, USC, Michigan or Notre Dame? I am sure, if pressed, Mr. Emmert would claim that his supporting "data" only takes into consideration ticket sales or some similar garbage excuse. For the record we did try to contact the NCAA about this statement. As of yet we haven't heard back.
As a side note, Emmert also took time to take a jab at bloggers. He said, "The NCAA's burden of proof is a little higher than a blogger." (insert sarcastic tone here) Well, Mr. Emmert, thanks for that. Personally, we would put our money on a blogger's moral standards. Since the NCAA judge based on public opinon.
After watching this interview, we have to assume one of two things: either Emmert is an idiot, or he thinks we all are. He speaks with such a condescending attitude, we choose to assume the latter. Take a look at the interview, and let us know what you think. ESPN interview

Bandit, you made the correct assumption...Mark Emmert IS an idiot. I can't believe that he thinks the public is swallowing his BS. The NCAA needs to be brought down. Bloggers like yourself need to keep the NCAA and ALL their issues on the front burner. Hopefully Congress will start asking them hard questions and pull their "tax exempt" status.
NCAA athletics isn't big money... apart from Div1 football and March Madness, that is. These two major revenue generating events carry all the other programs at a typical university. BCS football money dwarfs all other ncaa sporting events.

If you are going to be racist, sexist, or blatantly idiotic I will probably delete your comment.
