The NCAA is Officially Investigating Auburn and Has Been For a While

Every Auburn fan's favorite writer Pete Thammel over at the New York Times dropped a bomb on Auburn today.  He wrote an article reporting an exchange between Gene Chizik and Julie Roe Lach the N.C.A.A.'s vice president for enforcement.  The exchange occurred at a SEC meeting last month.  Chizik asked Lach when the the N.C.A.A. investigation into Auburn would be completed.   Lach then told Chizik when they were done he would know.

This is interesting on a couple of levels.  First off it blows the Auburn homer's excuse that they are not being investigated by the N.C.A.A. out of the water.  You are being investigated your head coach said you were.  So no more I won't believe in an investigation till I have proof, you have proof.  Unless you Aubies are gonna call Gene Chizik a liar?

It also shows a level of frustration with the investigation.  Chizik must have had it up to his ears with this stuff to ask that question at a meeting in front of a group of colleagues.  His complaint seems to be that it was effecting his ability to recruit.  I do wish he would have been more specific.  Is the investigation affecting people's opinion of you or your ability to pay players?
