Kevin Turner played college football for the University of Alabama. He was a fullback. A big, tough, mean, scary fullback. The quarterback's last line of defense. The big man they called on in the red-zone. Kevin was so big, mean, and scary that he was drafted to the NFL. He spent 8 seasons playing with the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. Kevin was a great football player. He fought some great teams on the gridiron.
Kevin is now fighting a much tougher fight. In June of 2010 Kevin was diagnosed with ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Most of the time the cause of ALS is unknown. In fact, we know surprisingly little about this horrible disease. They symptoms of ALS are devastating and will lead to paralysis. Eventually it leads to a inability to breath without assistance and then death. There is no known cure for the disease. The treatments can only attempt to control the symptoms. Only around 20 percent of those diagnosed survive for more than 5 years.
Kevin is committed to fighting this disease, as are thousands of Americans whom it affects. Please, take the time to watch this video about Kevin and those brave people. To find out how you can help fight ALS please visit www.alsa.org. Tweet
