The NCAA has ruled Cam Newton eligable to play college football. This is great news for the Auburn Tigers and the SEC. This is terrible news for college football. Not because Cam is playing, it's what else they said. The NCAA reinstated Cam based on the fact that he didn't know his father was seeking extra benefits for him. Based on him not knowing that money had been asked for. The NCAA just sold the farm on college football amatuerism. Based on this precedent a wave of parents asking for monetary rewards for their student is about to begin. As long as the athlete were to stay out of the room when the money is being negotiated the kid is fine. This is a huge legal loop hole. All Reggie Bush would have had to say was "I had no idea my parents were receiving money." I think this further goes to show that money has become much more important than fair play or a good game. The SEC's statements are ridiculous beyond belif. Mike Slive SEC commishiner said “The actions taken by Auburn University and Mississippi State University make it clear this behavior will not be tolerated in the SEC.” Really Mike? So that one day of ineligibility and Cecil not being able to go to the games really showed the world huh? It's obvious to us that the money out there for an Auburn National Championship is more important to the SEC and NCAA than the rules. It is now officially open season.
