Texas vs. Texas A&M, The Lone Star Showdown

It has been a bad year for Mac Brown and the Longhorns. They sit at the bottom of the Big 12 South Standings. A year after going to the national championship game they are struggling to get bowl eligible. The Longhorns must win this game to go to a bowl this year. At 5-6, the season is on the line. As far as most Texas fans are concerned the season is already over. Texas fans expect to be in the top 10 or at least the top 25 every year. And a 5-6 season, on the verge of no bowl is not going to cut it. And how did Texas get here? They moved to a pro-style offense with Garrett Gilbert. They need to call up Florida and learn how hard it is to change offenses in one year. Although Texas fans are upset, a losing season might push them over the edge. A bowl game won't keep heads from rolling this off season in Austin, but it might give Mac Brown a bit of breathing room.

On the other side of the field are the Aggies. The Aggies have suffered from a bout of mediocrity for the past 5 years. They haven't been awful, but they haven't been good. For such a rabid and faithful fan base, home of the 12th man. It is hard to believe they have had such trouble putting together a consistently successful program. The most attention the Aggies have gotten in recent years was last spring when they were on the SEC's wish list for conference expansion. The Aggies suffer from little brother syndrome; much in the same way Auburn does in Alabama. (we will get to that in the Iron Bowl article). They hate that they are considered the second banana in Texas. When the conference expansion talk started all anyone cared about , or seemed too, is where Texas would go. They get significantly less Big 12 money than Texas. They get out recruited by Texas. Most years they get out played by Texas. This year may be a golden opportunity to make some gains on big brother Texas.

The key to this game is Garrett Gilbert. The Texas quarterback has been shaky at best. And if the Aggies can shut down the run, which we think they can. It is going to be on the shoulders of Gilbert. He is going to have to throw the ball down field. And he is going to have to limit his turnovers for Texas to have a shot at a bowl.

Date: Thanksgiving Day, November 25th

Game Time: 8:00 ET

Where to Watch: ESPN

Prediction: Mac Brown has lost this team. It is hard to imagine Texas getting fired up to try to make the Independence Bowl. On the flip side the Aggies want to be the ones to put the nail in the Longhorn's coffin.

Aggies 24
Longhorns 10
