Its that time of year again. Time for the hate. Time for the anger. Time for the turkey. The Iron Bowl is one of the greatest rivalry games in college football. The outcome of this game is of the utmost importance to the fans of these two teams; this year to the whole of college football.
Auburn comes into this game as a favorite. They are on the road to a SEC Championship, and a possible BCS National Championship. They have all the right pieces together. But there have been problems. Lets put aside the whole Cam Newton recruitment saga for a moment. The Tigers have been very slow this year out of the gate. They have on a regular basis given their opponents a significant lead in the first half. They then turn to Cam Newton to rescue them in the second half. They can not give Alabama the same lead they did Georgia. If Alabama gets up by 14 they will not relinquish the lead. Also Auburn has preformed underwhelmingly on the road. Anyone remember that trip to Mississippi State? They have not played in an environment like Bryant Denny Stadium. Hostile and Angry. That with all the distractions off the field may be dangerous.
As for Alabama, they must fight from the start. Alabama's D line has been suspect at times this year. It can't be today. The line must put pressure on Cam Newton and force some turnovers. Also Alabama must attack not only on the ground but through the air. Auburn's own suspect D is very weak in the secondary. And an air attack may be their Achilles heal.
This game of Cam Newton and Mark Ingrim, this game of vaunted offensive greats, will come down to D. If Auburn's D steps up then Auburn wins. If Alabama's D steps up then Alabama wins. Simple as that.
Prediction:
Alabama 28
Auburn 14
