The Egg Bowl

This is an old one.  This rivalry goes back to 1901.  The first trophy was awarded in 1927.  Its called the Egg Bowl because back when it was first played footballs had an egg shape to them.  Also, the trophy created in 1927 is called the golden egg. 

Mississippi State has had a great season.  They are 7-4 going into this game.  And rumor has them placed in a Chick-fil-A bowl match with Florida State.  Mississippi State is a regular bottom dweller in the SEC west.  And any winning season is a good season.  But a big bowl and a 8-4 regular season record would keep Dan Mullen's fans happy for a long time.  The only stumbling block left is Ole Miss.  Last year Mississippi State beat Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl.  And Houston Nutt refused to shake Dan Mullen's hand.  To win this game Mississippi State just needs to play their football.  Slow and steady, running mixed with a few passes. If they can keep the pace of the game slow they will win the game.

Ole Miss on the other hand has had an awful season.  They have been beaten time and time again.  Jacksonville State knocked them off in the first game of the year.  And things haven't gotten much better.  About the only thing Jeremiah Masoli has brought to Oxford is losses.  And using his last year of eligibility to take away a year of experience from back up, and next years QB, Nathan Stanley.  As much as this years 4-7 hurts, fans in Oxford should brace themselves.  We think next year could be worse.  And it could be Huston Nutt's final season in Oxford.  Of course Nutt does like to throw his hat in the ring for all coaching vacancies, so who knows if he will stick with the sinking ship.  Of course a win over Mississippi State would do a lot to placate the fan base.  At least they would have beaten thier rival from Strakville.  We just don't see it happening.  If Ole Miss is going to win, they need to be light on Houston Nutt trick plays and heavy on pass plays.  They need to speed up the game and get the points rolling in , much like last week against LSU.
