There are still so many discrepancies and problems with this story. We have created this timeline to try to explain what we know, and what we think we know. We will be updating this post periodically. Things we know for certain are expressed in blue. Things that are rumors or accusations are expressed in orange.

May 11, 1989 Cameron Jerrell Newton is born. Seriously, Jerrell?

September 7, 2007 Cam Newton verbally commits to the University of Florida.

2007 Cam Newton is a backup quarterback at the University of Florida.

2007 Cam Newton takes a medical red shirt.

2008 Cam gets 13 traffic violations.

November 21, 2008 The laptop fiasco. Cam is found in possession of stolen laptop , he claims he bought it for 120 bucks. When confronted by police he throws it out the window. January 2009 Cam leaves Florida for Blinn Community College. Supposedly on the basis of playing time issues and wanting a fresh start. Orlando Sentinel

Fall 2009 Cam leads Blinn College to a championship of some sort. Blinn

November 2009 Cecil Newton meets with two Mississippi State Coaches and discusses a pay for play scam. Cecil also tells former Mississippi State player Kenny Rogers that "it will take between 100 and 180 thousand dollars to get Cam" Clarion Ledger

December 2009 Cam Newton calls Dan Mullen and tells him he can't come to Mississippi State because the "money is to much". The Big Lead

December 2009 Cecil Newton tells family that Cam will be going to Auburn. For Whom the Cowbell Tolls

December 31, 2009 Cam commits to Auburn University.

January 2010 Mississippi State reports to the SEC that Kenny Rogers contact another former Mississippi State player John Bond. Mississippi State reports that Rogers was attempting to get money for Cam's commitment to play at Mississippi State.

July 2010 Mississippi State gets around to giving the SEC the extra info it asked for.

Fall 2010 the NCAA begins to investigate Cam Newton and his recruitment by Mississippi State.

November 4, 2010 ESPN breaks the story of the NCAA investigation of Cam Newton. All hell breaks loose for Cam Newton and Auburn. Cash for Cam

November 4, 2010 Auburn says for the first time that Cam is eligible to play.

November 4, 2010 Cecil Newton says if Rogers sought any money he did it on his own.

November 9, 2010 TMZ reports the FBI is involved in Camgate. TMZ

November 9, 2010 Gene Chizick Auburn head ball coach, and Jay Jacobs the Auburn athletic director make statements to the press saying that all the allegations are bull. Then this happens: boom

November 10, 2010 Gene Chizick says Cam will start for Auburn against Georgia. SI.com

November 10, 2010 Mississippi State releases statement to say "whoa whoa we didn't do shit"

November 10, 2010 The SEC makes a statement saying "dude this is all Auburn's call we are so out"

November 11, 2010 Kenny Rogers and his attorney go on ESPN radio and throw Cecil Newton under the bus. listen to the interview here. Basically Kenny says yes I asked for money and Cecil told me too. He says Cecil talked to him about this several times.

November 12. 2010 It is reported that Cecil has admitted to asking for money from Mississippi State. However he claims Cam is innocent and knew nothing about it. Cam Newton's dad admits money talks

November 17, 2010 The FBI expands its probe of the Cam Newton recruitment pay for play fiasco on ice to include Milton McGregor. McGregor is a well known Auburn booster and is under federal indictment already for trying to bribe Alabama state legislators. TMZ McGregor denies he has ever had contact directly or indirectly with Cam Newton.

November 17, 2010 John Bell, another Mississippi State alum, tells the NCAA he has text messages detailing a payment plan for Cam Newton. ESPN

November 18, 2010 Al.com reports that sources tell them that wiretaps on Milton McGregor over the past year revel no connection to Cam Newton. This is good news for Auburn. Al.com

November 18, 2010 The Newton family attorney tells a reporter that he is "one million percent sure" that Cam Newton didn't take any money to play college football. The use of an attorney that would use the phrase "one million percent" shows that the Newtons may not have all that much money. Watch him here


December 1, 2010 The NCAA announces that Cam is eligible to play football based on the fact that he didn't know Cecil had asked for money. NCAA Statement

December 3, 2010 NCAA issues statement defending Cam Newton verdict.  NCAA president states:
“We recognize that many people are outraged at the notion that a parent or anyone else could ‘shop around’ a student-athlete and there would possibly not be repercussions on the student-athlete’s eligibility.
“I’m committed to further clarifying and strengthening our recruiting and amateurism rules so they promote appropriate behavior by students, parents, coaches and third parties. We will work aggressively with our members to amend our bylaws so that this type of behavior is not a part of intercollegiate athletics.”

December 12, 2011 Cam Newton is awarded the Heisman Trophy.  100 voters leave Cam completely off the ballot.  

January 3, 2011 Auburn AD Jay Jacobs confirms that all Auburn players are academically eligable to play in the national championship gameSports by Brooks

January 3, 2011 Auburn leaves for the National Championship Game. Ledger

January 5, 2011 Gene Chizik is backed into a corner by Jim Rome and forced to say all players are academically eligible.  Technically he only says that they will all play, not that they are all eligibleSports by Brooks 

January 6, 2011 Charles Barkley is accused of buying Cam Newton floor seats for the suns game. Charles Barkley says he did not buy the seats.  But Barkley being Barkley he also adds that if Cam had asked he totally would haveFanhouse

January 7, 2011 Alabama Governor Bob Riley declares today Cam Newton Day in Alabama.  ESPN



January 10, 2011 Auburn wins the BCS national championship.

This is the most accurate reporting I have seen so far. Just report the facts. We all need to remember that there has been no evidence shown. Everything is there word against ours.
