Until this weekend when I thought of great poetry I thought of Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, William Shatner, and Maya Angelou. But now you can add another name to that list ... Cam Newton. Cam was in Auburn this weekend, not because he was paid for an appearance but because he totally wanted to be there. TO BE CLEAR, NO ONE WAS PAID! Anyway, Cam was in Auburn for the unveiling of his statue. Auburn built statues of past Heisman Trophy winners to put in front of their stadium. They did this because they had been thinking about it for a super long time, and not because Alabama had statues of national championship winning coaches in front of their stadium. TO BE CLEAR, AUBURN WAS TOTALLY GONNA DO THIS BEFORE ALABAMA BUILT STATUES!
Cam surprised everyone in the crowd when he read a heartfelt and stirring poem about his time at Auburn. We have been lucky enough to get a copy of Cam's original draft that he gave his P.R. team to edit. We know this is Cam's because it was found in a laptop bag with a laptop behind a dumpster in Auburn. The laptop had "THIS IS CAM'S LAPTOP AND TOTALLY NOT STOLEN!" painted on it. I think the poem was better before the edits, but everybody has to be P.C. these days.
