John Zenor @jzenor just posted this tweet:
SEC spokesman: Commissioner Mike Slive called Bama AD Mal Moore after another league school complained over Web photo on Tide's "fax cam"
Seriously? You have got to be joking. On National Signing Day, Alabama had a live internet cam of their fax machine. The webcam would show when faxes came in. Then, after a letter of intent fax was received, one of several people put the names of the player who's letter Alabama received up on the fax machine with a magnet.
The first complaint we have heard was about the so called "fax girl." There were actually two girls who were taking faxes off the machine and putting up the names. The first girl appeared to be dressed in normal office attire. Truth be told if you are arguing that it is objectification, you're an idiot. The girl appeared around a total of 5 minutes out of the entire 4 hours of live coverage. She was there to grab faxes and put up names. The other girl who was helping was part of the Crimson Cabaret, the Alabama dance team. They perform at athletic events and pep rallies. To say that her uniform was objectification is to say that all cheerleaders and dancers for all sports teams are objectification. Are there not cheerleaders at nearly every college school including Auburn? We thought so. Other than the two girls, several men and coaches also collected faxes and placed names on the machine. Were they being objectified too? If you are arguing that just because the two girls were pretty, they were objectified, you are crazy. To say that Alabama should have picked an ugly girl based on the fact she was ugly would be discrimination as well.
Secondly, what kind of advantage did Alabama gain for having this webcam set up? The players didn't see this webcam feed. They were busy having their signing ceremonies. This was strictly for the fans. The truth is nothing harmful came of this webcam feed. One SEC school or another got their feelings hurt that Alabama beat them in recruiting. The result of those hurt feelings was they went running and crying to the SEC office.
Don't be a crybaby, just do it.
