HBO on Auburn, Auburn on Everyone Else

It was reported today, by several different sources, including SportsbyBrooks.com and ChuckOliver.net, that HBO real sports would be doing a special on the state of college football.  The HBO special will focus on the SEC and will detail some of the dirty dealings within the conference.  Front and center will be the investigation of Auburn.  It has been reported that former Auburn Tiger Stanley McClover will be spilling his pay for play tale.  Of course, shortly after this info was a leaked, a response came from the Auburn message boards.  The claim reported only at ChuckOliver.net and several Auburn boards is that a former Alabama player Chris Keys will also be telling tales on Alabama.  The implication being that Alabama is doing the same thing as Auburn.

First of all, we are sick of this excuse.  We are so tired of hearing Auburn fans say "everyone cheats" as a response to accusations that they are cheating.  If every school in college football was cheating--and they are not, at least not to the extent that it looks like Auburn is--then it still wouldn't make what Auburn is doing right.  You are still cheating, still breaking the rules.

Also, Chris Keys is a curious choice as he only played at Alabama for one year.  He was kicked off the team for disciplinary reasons.  While as we all know those reasons are usually confidential, the story is that he got in a fight in the dorms.  So the accuser of Alabama is going to be a player who played there for one year and got kicked off the team.  A player who more than likely has a bone to pick with Alabama.  That seems like an extremely reliable dubious source. We wonder if Auburn fans will give Alabama the benefit of the doubt since it is only one source and a very unreliable one?  Wasn't if Auburn fans who claimed that Cam Newton couldn't be judged by what John Bond said because it was only one source and there was no proof?  Or, will this be yet another moment to show a stunning amount of hypocrisy?  The difference in Chris Keys and Kenny Rodgers, John Bond and Cecil Newton, is that if Keys is saying these things, he is the only one.  Whereas, the allegations against Auburn are coming from all sides.

The other players being thrown in the mix seem ridiculous at best.  Tyrone Protho was spoken to by HBO.  However the Prothro story has to do with him being approached by an agent after his horrible career ending injury.   As for any rumors involving Javier Arenas, we highly doubt he would speak to HBO.  Arenas is now in the middle of a successful NFL career.  He doesn't seem like a likely candidate to go make waves, especially for a school he loves.  Arenas was also only recruited by Alabama and FIU, surely Alabama didn't pay to steal a recruit from FIU.

ChuckOliver.net says that an interview from Kenny Rodgers is also possible.  And that Rodgers may have a tape of himself and Cecil Newton that would be devastating to Mississippi State.  If Rodgers does have a tape of Mississippi State offering Cecil Newton money, it would be devastating for them.  It would also most likely be devastating for Auburn.  Mike Slive said the SEC couldn't punish Auburn or Cam because he had no proof that Cecil agreed to be paid by Mississippi State.  A tape of him talking to Kenny Rodgers may prove that.  Of course, we would be shocked to see Mike Slive punish anyone involved in this case;  he has more important things to worry about like fax girls.  It should probably be noted that Oliver is an Auburn grad and that his information has been questionable in the past.

Looking at the way this all seems to be shaking out, we are getting our popcorn ready for that HBO special.  Of course, you can expect something to happen in the days leading up to it,  some big news to come out of Auburn to take attention away or some big accusations against Alabama.  Maybe it's time Auburn faced up to some of this and stopped pointing the finger at everyone else.

I'm no Gumble but do it anyway.

Very good article. You are so right about Auburn. Hopefully, more and more people will begin to see them for what they really are. I'm sure before March 30, something will happen to take the focus off this story. They'll have to try and be poor Auburn again. What, is the eagle going to get sick or maybe Trooper will lose his hat.

Good Article, Auburn does need something else to focus on. One National Championship in 54 years does not mean that they have a great Football Program Legacy. They truly need to be humbled, since a lot of their players are under scrutiny on pay for play.

Boy oh boy, some “journalist” has an axe to grind with Auburn. Does journalistic integrity mean anything to you ? This thing sounds like it was written by a bitter bammer. It just drips of venom. You imply many Auburn supporters claim “everyone cheats” as if it is OK for Auburn to cheat? Have you ever been to Auburn? Just how MANY people did you survey? The majority of Auburn people will tell you it is NOT OK to cheat and we don’t approve of it. If we did we will pay the price and there will be accountability. Your are SICK of hearing excuses and Auburn is SICK of people like you with absolutely no moral compass hiding behind profession hacking Auburn with little to no proof. Get

Face it, War Buzzard, the only way you win is by cheating...and... when did you and your fellow buzzards dig the 57 Nat. Champ.up from...I well remember...seems like you cheated then, too and 99% of all sports people did not give your frail little bird any title then. Kinda' funny...both times you Aubies celebrate a Nat. Champ. it is taken from you....poor fellows!

Yellow Jackets sting, don't they????

If you haven't heard an Auburn fan say that everyone cheats, you haven't talked to many Auburn fans. You have to own that much. I didn't think the article was biased other than being sick of hearing Auburn fans talk about how everyone does it.

If Keys is talking to the ncaa about Bama, it's guaranteed that somebody at the Barn is paying him like they did when they paid Gene Jelks $35,000 to lie about his former school. Jelks also had a bone to pick with Bama as he was recruited as a running back and wound up on defense for most of his career. But the premise of the article is spot on. Can we please can the "everybody does it" speech. Bunch of wussies down on the plains need to man up and clean up that rotten program. Maybe it's too late for that. Everybody in the know says the Barn is going down hard
