Cam Newton did do amazing things at Auburn, but he only played there one semester! When asked about the fact he played only one semester Cam said "I don't want to sound arrogant but I did something in one year people couldn't do in their whole collegiate careers." This is exactly the problem Cam, you didn't do it, your team did it. You had an amazing offensive line consisting of mostly seniors, these men were the reason that you were allowed to run around in the backfield and take shotgun snaps. Cam Newton was an absolutely critical part of Auburn's success, but he wasn't the only part. How quickly he seems to have forgotten his team mates. We would be more impressed if Cam had come back this year. Would he been able to repeat his accomplishments with a young offensive line and defense? If he had we would have been very impressed.Cam doesn't seem to realize that if he gets his wish and becomes the overall number one draft pick he is not going to play for the Patriots. He will be with the Panthers, the Lions, or the Bills. None of which will be able to provide him with he surrounding cast he had at Auburn. He will be facing NFL defenses that are experienced and smart. It is not going to be the same world.
This brings us to our next point, Cam Newton hasn't proven anything in the NFL. In fact he is a shotgun snap, spread offense QB. Make no mistake he is a great shotgun snap, spread offense QB. The problem is that the NFL doesn't use spread offenses, they use a Pro style offense. Cam will have to take snaps from center, which we have yet to see him really do. As a NFL quarterback he will also be required to read defenses and make adjustments. When Cam faced changing defenses in college he looked to the sideline. That won't cut it in the NFL, just ask David Garrard.
You would think with an ongoing NCAA investigation Cam would be more humble. You might think he would be concerned about what was going to happen to Auburn and possibly his Heisman trophy. Cam doesn't seem to be worried at all. Either he knows he is completely innocent or he doesn't really care what happens to Auburn. I know its hard to believe, but when you hire a gun for one semester, it appears that loyalty on goes so far. If the NCAA were to hammer Auburn in the coming months we wouldn't expect an apology from Cam, he has moved on. After all, Reggie Bush still hasn't admitted he did anything wrong.
Cam did some amazing things in college football, that doesn't mean he is an icon yet. Plenty of big names have come from college and flopped in the NFL. Matt Leinart, and Chris Weinke both won an national title and a Heisman trophy. We wouldn't call either of them icons now. Cam hasn't even played in the NFL, perhaps he should wait to boast until after he has seen the level of competition.
As for Cam's other quote "Jerry Jones, man he knows how to get hold of me, let's just say that." Those are some big words, Cam's big ego might fit in perfectly with the Cowboys. Better be careful though, Jerry will demand that you live up to your boast.
I'm an icon, so you should do it.

Cam is totally full of himself. He is going to get a rude awakening in the NFL.
