Help Us Fight the NCAA!

The petition to get Congress to investigate the NCAA has reached the half-way mark.  We have had 500 concerned college football fans join us in our fight.  When the petition reaches 1000 signatures, it will be sent to Congress. We need your help if we are going to reach this goal.  In our previous article, Tell Congress To Investigate the NCAA, we talked about the reasons why the NCAA needed congressional over-site.  Here, we will talk about what we hope to accomplish with this petition.

The goal of this petition is to get Congress to investigate the NCAA.  If the investigating starts, we have little doubt that it will lead to congressional hearings.  We have received a lot of concern from folks who don't want the government to get involved with college athletics.  We have to assume those people are fine with the way the system is working now.  We are not asking for Congress to take over college sports, we want them to investigate and expose the truth of what is going on.  We have precedent to back this up.

When Congress investigated steroids in baseball, did they take over baseball? No. Of course not.  The congressional hearings did expose the problems that the MLB had been trying to hide for years.  The same people who for years had simply refused to address the issues with the public were suddenly forced to answer all the questions Congress had for them.  Remember the testimony of Rodger Clemons?  Remember how we all knew he was lying and his testimony was an embarrassment for all of baseball?  Now imagine Mark Emmert having to explain to an angry congressman from Kentucky why he decided to punish Enes Kanter but said nothing about his recruitment when Emmert was at Washington.  Think of how entertaining it will be to see Auburn Athletic Director, Jay Jacobs, explain the Cam Newton situation.  If Cam gets subpoenaed, will he still claim to know nothing of his father's activities or will his story change under threat of perjury.  Picture Jim Delany explaining why he spoke out publicly against the Cam Newton decision but failed to comment against the Ohio State ruling.  Best of all, we will be hearing from the schools that were hurt by the NCAA's failure to judge with an even hand.  We would like to see the reaction of the esteemed senator from Texas when hearing from the athletic director of TCU as he describes how his school was cheated out of a chance at a National Championship.

A subpoena from Congress cannot be ignored.  Anyone who is asked to appear will have to appear.  They must answer all questions posed to them, unless they are going to plead the 5th.  If the President of the NCAA was to plead the 5th, you can be sure that changes would come.  That would be admitting that some of the NCAA's activities are not just reprehensible but illegal.

So what can we do to get our petition to 1000 signatures?  We are going to need your help.  Please link this article and our original one to anyone you know that may be interested.  Post the articles on Twitter and Facebook.  Let your friends and other college football fans know what we are trying to do.  Let's get to 1000 signatures and see if we can move Congress to action.  Thanks for all your help.  Every reader and petition signer is appreciated. Let's make the NCAA accountable!
